The computer-connected GPS receivers need to be installed on a computer to function, but gps receivers for laptops, PDAs or smartphones are also available to match the mobility needs. The connection of the two devices together can be established through Bluetooth technology, or with a USB or serial cable. The disadvantage with this kind of GPS receivers is that they don't have the navigation software included, and the buyer has to get the program separately. Although these GPS receivers seem to be more difficult to work with in the first place because of the installation, they are nevertheless preferred by users because they are cheaper.
